The new gadget called the Carbon Hero is trying to make people more aware of the carbon footprint they leave behind. This trendy little device uses sat-nav technology to track an individual’s journeys.

This gadget will tackle a very hot subject at the moment, as more all people are concerned about the amount of greenhouse gases they produce. Until that is gadget came along it has been difficult for people to measure how much carbon dioxide, CO2, they produce as an individual.

The inventors claim that the Carbon Hero will easily allow you to calculate your carbon footprint. It is a simple to use device that uses sat-nav to calculate an individual’s carbon usage while travelling.

The collected information is fed into a special software program that uses algorithms to determine the type of transport, distance travelled, and the resulting impact on the environment.

This is a joint venture with the European Commission and ESA, who are helping to ensure that the gadget will supply very accurate information. The user can then check almost instantaneously, the effect his journey is having on the environment.

This is not just considered to be an eco-friendly toy; it is being beta-tested by companies in the UK. The idea is that companies, and government departments, can calculate exactly the amount of carbon they are expending. And armed with this information can reduce carbon emissions to come into line with EEC, carbon emissions reductions, legislation.

It has always been reasonably easy to calculate static CO2 emissions, from electricity usage, heating and so on. With the Carbon Hero, companies, individuals and government will now be able to do an exact calculation as to how much harmful CO2 and other greenhouse gases they are releasing into the atmosphere.
