University is to analyze ‘train wreck’ celebrities
The University of East Anglia (UEA), England, next week will analyse “train wreck” female celebrities with focus on the popularity of stories about women we all “love to hate”, these include females ‘train wrecks’ Britney Spears, Amy Winehouse, Lindsay Lohan, Kerry Katona, Heather Mills and Jade Goody.
Papers given will include Britney’s Tears: The Abject Female Celebrity In Post-Emotional Society and Celebrity Chav: Fame, Femininity And Social Class.
Entitled Going Cheap? Female Celebrity In The Tabloid, Reality And Scandal Genres, the one-day event on Wednesday, June 25, has been organised by Prof Negra and Dr Susan Holmes, both of UEA’s School of Film and Television Studies.
It will ask whether female celebrity is depreciating in value and whether self-destructive men are treated differently.
It will also pose questions including whether new media outlets intensify scandals and white working class female celebrities uphold class stereotypes.
