Eco-friendly buildings are designed cut down on the amount of energy they consume. The new headquarters of Abu Dhabi’s Masdar is set to change that. This new building is the world’s first “positive energy’ structure.

Positive energy means that not only is this building designed to use less fuel, it will actually produce more energy than it uses. Even during construction solar panels gather the energy of sunlight to power building equipment and heat water. In effect, this building will power its own construction

This new 1.3 million square foot structure, costing in excess of $300 million is to become the centrepiece of a new totally eco-friendly development known as Masdar City.

Masdar City is Abu Dhabi’s completely new city with a price tag of over $22 billion. Many of the new building materials and concepts are on the edge of technological developments. And many are very radical and experimental; all of the buildings will be eco-friendly in nature.

How could you ever live without it? This new version of the Victorian gazebo is designed to keep out all those annoying little summer intrusions such as bugs, summer showers and intrusive neighbors’.

This new summerhouse, known as the Sphere Lounger is unique in that it actually rotates. The ball shaped lounger sits outside in the garden and is able to rotate to either the follow or avoid the sun.

Inside the lounger is a centre of the table surrounded by circular bench seating for the ultimate in cozy outdoor retreats.

The whole building is sat on a track floating on ball bearings, making it incredibly easy to rotate. There are plans for a powered rotating version of this unique little building. The cost is around $13,000, if you really can’t live without one.
