Rinspeed Squba - The World’s first submersible car

Have you seen “The Spy Who Loved Me”? Where Roger Moore ‘James Bond’ drove a submarine like car, and wonder if that could one day become a reality. The film was made in 1977, just over 30 years ago, and of course technology wasn’t so advanced back then, Roger Moore didn’t drive a real submersible car, it was all animated.

Rinspeed, the Swiss manufacturer has just developed the world’s first submersible car called Squba and it will be on shown at the Geneva Motor Show (March 6th - 16th, 2008). Squba, a convertible sport car can go from driven on land to going underwater up to 10 meter in which passengers can breathe with the help of compressed air masks.

Rinspeed’s SQuba is 3.79 m long, 1.94 m wide and 1.12 m tall, with a wheelbase of 2, 30 m, weight 920 kg and has a maximum speed of 120 km/h.

The Squba is not for sale by the way, so put that wallet back into your pocket.
