Playing Violent Online Games Relaxes You

A new study by psychologists at Middlesex University was presented at the British Psychological Society’s Annual Conference in Dublin last Wednesday stating that players of violent video games online generally feel more relaxed and less angry after they have played.

The psychologists studied 292 male and female online gamers playing World of Warcraft. They found that overall the gamers, aged between 12 and 83, were more likely to feel calm or tired after playing, although there were differences depending on sex, age and personality.

“There were actually higher levels of relaxation before and after playing the game as opposed to experiencing anger but this did very much depend on personality type,” said Middlesex University’s Jane Barnett, who is also an International Game Developers Association committee member.

Now you have it, let’s play more of GTA and Man Hunt.

I totally disagree with this viewpoint. I am pretty skeptical about the direct correlation between violent online games and relaxation. From a layman’s point of view all I have to say that, playing violent games might aggravate your envious feelings. I mean everytime you play a violent game you assume that your virtual opponent is the the personification of your real life rival. After repeatedly thrashing your virtual opponent who knows? you might replicate it in the real world. Sounds like an exagerration? But It is surely possible.
