Plastic Made from Pig Urine
Denmark, the country that brought you those delicious bacon, it is also a country that has more pigs than people, 20 million of them to be precise and pigs do what they do best, dirty the environment.
Apparently pig urine is is an environmental hazard, therefore it is fitting really that Danish companies are trying to find a way to better commercialize urea, a compound of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and hydrogen, found in urine.
Danish run Agroplast wants to transform pig urine into plastic dinnerware and household items, if this idea is realized then plastics will cost a third less than conventional plastics made from fossil fuels.
Agroplast says its farm-friendly chemicals have other uses too. They can be used as fertilizers, as an ingredient in lotions, and “as a flavor enhancer in cigarettes,” according to the company’s Web site.
