New Cell Phone For the Blinds
Utilizing vibrations that feel similar to Morse code, Japanese professor Nobuyuki Sasaki has created a different kind of cell phone that operates in Braille to assist blind users.
With a special Braille keyboard setup, the cell phone gives tactile feedback via dual vibrating mechanisms, which are capable of responding to input and will then “display” output. What this means is that the phone makes it much simpler for the blind to dial numbers without making mistakes.
