MPAA suing RealNetworks
The MPAA is suing RealNetworks. Yeah, the same guys who make the Real Player (the one that comes with most of your Windows systems).
According to the MPAA they are making a service that allows you to rip a DRM DVD and then add their own DRM to it. But what is quite funny is the lawyers for the MPAA are asking that their names not be released to the public. Why is that you ask?
Lawyers for the MPAA, in a teleconference with reporters, said Kaleidesape and RealDVD are circumventing “technology designed to prevent copying.”
The lawyers, who asked that their names not be published, said they were concerned “Consumers will think this is a legal product…when in fact it is totally illegal.”
If this is not fishy I don’t know what it is. We’ll keep you posted as to what unfolds…which I can guarantee you…nothing much will come out of this case. Or so it seems at the moment.
