Japanese architects Hirofumi Ohno, Yuji Nakae and Akiyoshi Takagi are also very enthusiastic about their hobby. They have built the NE apartment building, a stylish and upmarket block of eight apartments.

The apartments are separated by seven individual thick concrete walls. These walls run the length of the apartment block and can be accessed from each apartment. The building has an unusual ‘C’ shape.

Each apartment is a duplex or two-story apartment, and unusually for an apartment building, each unit has a motorcycle parking space. Not in the basement but in the living area itself, each apartment also connects directly to the road outside.

The reason for all this odd construction is that this is the worlds first bike friendly apartment block. The buildings ‘C’ shaped construction allows for an internal courtyard to let the motorcycles move through the building.

The whole building is heavily soundproofed, but it’s hard to imagine that would kill the sound, but presumably the bikes noise will not disturb these particular residents.
