Meet the winged cats in China

Winged cats have been known to exist since the 19th century, but only a handful of people have actually seen one. But during a hot spell in China’s Sichuan province, cats starting to grow wings. Take one cat owner called Feng from Sichuan, she watched her cat grew wings on his back last summer because of stress after he was ‘harassed’ by females looking to mate.

“At first, they were just two bumps, but they started to grow quickly, and after a month there were two wings. Many female cats in heat came to harass him, and then the wings started to grow.” she told Huashang News.

The wings are not just over grown fur, they’re actually bones.

Genetic experts said there is nothing angelic or magical about the winged cats. They believe the wings can form through poor grooming, a genetic defect or a hereditary skin condition.
