Police officers in Scotland were disappointed when they raided 79 year old, Lulu Matheson’s house thinking that the pensioner’s house was a cannabis factory. And it turned out, the plants were not cannabis but tomato crop. The dopey officers refused to accept that Lulu’s pot plants weren’t pot plants, they insisted on sending samples of the plants to be analysed.

Mrs Matheson, who has lived in the cottage for 53 years, said: ‘I got a terrible fright and I couldn’t understand what they were doing here because I knew we had nothing more than tomatoes in the window. I don’t know what the neighbours must be thinking.’

The high-profile police operation took place in the picturesque village of Shieldaig in the Highlands of Scotland a week ago.

Mrs Matheson’s 47-year-old son Gus, a former driver, was looking out of the window when he spotted police cars screeching to a halt .

He said: ‘I wondered what on earth was going on. I opened the door and they more or less barged past, saying that I was growing cannabis on the windowsills.

‘I started laughing because I knew they were tomato plants but it wasn’t so funny when they frisked me and then started tearing the house apart.’

Mr Matheson was kept under guard in the bedroom while officers searched the furniture and looked under the mattress. He said that the police impounded the family’s pet dogs.

‘They even held Zac, our black labrador, and Moby, our Jack Russell, putting them in the back of one of the cop cars,’ Mr Matheson added.

‘And I just couldn’t believe it when they brought sniffer dogs all the way from Alness, which is about two hours away.

‘My 26-year-old nephew Stephen – who hardly even smokes a cigarette, never mind cannabis – lives with his girlfriend in a caravan next door and they went over and searched there too, after handcuffing him. It was a terrible carry-on.’

He added: ‘Despite leaving with their tails between their legs, the police didn’t even apologise.’

As a keen gardener, Mr Matheson grows tomatoes in the south-facing bedroom window to catch the sun.

He said: ‘We always enjoy having a juicy home-grown tomato with our dinner and I’ve had fine crops this year.’ Mr Matheson is now making a formal complaint to Northern Constabulary, calling the raid a waste of taxpayers’ money.

Police spokesman Duncan MacLean said: ‘We can confirm that, acting on information, we attended at an address in the Shieldaig area.

‘No drugs were found as a result of the search.’

Muhammad Al-’Arifi: Men beat women more often than women beat men. Some religious scholars say: “He should beat her with a toothpick.” I happen to have a toothpick with me. A man who is angry with his wife because she doesn’t get it… If he says to her: “Watch out, the child has fallen next to the stove,” or: “Move the child away from the electrical socket,” and she says: “I am busy” – then he beats her with a toothpick or something like it. He doesn’t beat her with a bottle of water, a plate, or a knife. This is forbidden. The scholars said he should beat her with a toothpick. Check out how gentle the toothpick used for beating is. This shows you that the purpose is not to inflict pain. When you beat an animal, you intend to cause it pain so it will obey you, because an animal would not understand if you said: “Oh camel, come on, start moving.” The camel does not understand such things, unless you beat it. A donkey understands nothing but beatings, but a woman, a man, a child, and so on, are generally more affected by emotions than by other things. If you beat her with a toothpick, or if you beat her lightly with your hand, and so on, it is meant to convey: “Woman, it has gone too far. I can’t bear it anymore.” If he beats her, the beatings must be light and must not make her face ugly. He must beat her where it will not leave marks. He should not beat her on the hand… He should beat her in some places where it will not cause any damage. He should not beat her like he would beat an animal or a child - slapping them right and left. Unfortunately, many husbands beat their wives only when they get mad, and when they start beating, it as if they are punching a wall – they beat with their hands, right and left, and sometimes use their feet. RConversation’s Rebecca McKinnon reports on 27 year-old Chinese blogger Zhou Shuguang, aka “Zola.” The tagline of his blog says in English: “You never know what you can do till you try.” The Chinese authorities have barred Zola from leaving the country, because he is “a potential threat to state security.”

Zola has stirred up controversy by turning himself into a commercial brand while at the same time committing citizen journalism. He has been called many things by many people: The “nailhouse blogger.” “Enfant terrible of the Chinese blogosphere.” A Chinese journalist-blogger friend of mine calls him “post-modern.”

Now Chinese authorities say he is “a potential threat to state security.” For that reason, they barred his exit from China to Hong Kong on Sunday. He was on his way to Germany to serve as a judge for Deutsche Welle’s Best of the Blogs awards.

I first learned of Zola’s detention on Twitter, where he posted live updates about what was happening - which other people in his Twitter network quickly relayed across the Internet. He posted an update on his blog about the situation on Saturday afternoon, telling his readers to follow his Twitter stream for the latest developments. (A Google News search at 4pm Hong Kong time today turned up no mainstream media reports on his situation, which shows how slow the MSM has been to take advantage of the Chinese twittersphere…or they don’t consider this news…)

It’s unclear exactly what caused Zola to be deemed “a potential threat to state security,” but he has been known to push the limits. Last Fall he was detained in Shenyang, roughed up a little, and sent home to Changsha when he tried to investigate protests related to a bizarre pyramid scheme. In June he announced he was going to Beijing to blog the Olympics. Soon thereafter, the police paid him a visit and told him it would be in his interest to stay home in Changsha. Once the Olympics were over he headed back to Beijing where, among other things, he worked with other bloggers to investigate the illegal “black jails.”

Blogger Zhou Shuguang a.k.a. “Zola” barred from leaving China: “potential threat to state security”

South Korean actress Ok So-ri cheated on her husband with a singer has called on the country’s Constitutional Court to overturn the statute that can send a person to jail for up to two years for adultery. South Korean prosecutors on Wednesday demanded that the actress to be thrown in jail for a year and a half for having an affair.

South Korean enacted its adultery law more than 50 years ago to protect women who had few rights in the male-dominated society but critics say now it is a draconian measure no longer fit for a country with an advanced civil and family court system.

“The accuser (her husband) wanted a severe sentence,” prosecutors said in court as to why they are seeking 18 months in jail for Ok, Yonhap news agency reported. Prosecutors were not available for comment.

Ok’s lawyers were also not immediately available for comment but they have said in a petition to Constitutional Court: “The adultery law … has degenerated into a means of revenge by the spouse, rather than a means of saving a marriage.”

Last month, the Constitutional Court said adultery damaged the social order and therefore was a criminal offence.

It is rare for courts to jail adulterers but that has not stopped several thousand angry spouses from filing criminal complaints each year.

South Korea seeks to jail actress for adultery

John Dawkins, 89, and his bride Penny Cooper, 90, have become Britain oldest newlyweds with a combined age of 179.

The couple met nine years ago were married at Honiton Register Office on Tuesday Nov 25 and have their reception at Cranford Nursing Home, where Penny stays.

Mr and Mrs Dawkins were married at Honiton Register Office, Devon, and the service was attended by their family of four children, five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

The couple both fought in the navy during the Second World War.

Mrs Dawkins, served as a WREN in the Women’s Royal Naval Service and Mr Dawkins, a Lieutenant Commander, saw service in the Royal Naval Special Reserve.

It was their joint navy background which finally brought them together at a charity social event in Exeter in 1999 after both their partners had died.

Mr Dawkins was urged by his friends to strike up a friendship with his new wife but says he did not need much encouragement.

He said: “She was the most beautiful young lady in the room.”

Mr Dawkins later became his new love’s carer and they lived together at his home in Exmouth.

Mrs Dawkins suffered a stroke 18 months ago and had to move into Cranford Nursing Home.

Mr Dawkins visits his new wife every day without fail and spends as much time with her as he can.

The record for the oldest newlyweds was previously held by Peggy Clark, 84, and James Mason, 93, who also lived in Devon - they were from Paignton.

13 year old boy receives naked photo of teen girl on cellphone, charges with possession of child pornography

Monday, a 13-year-old boy was arrested at Sanger Middle School in Denton, Texas. He subsequently spent the night in juvenile detention on charges of possession of child pornography!

Before you jump to conclusions however, there is a bit more to the story.
It seems that about 10 days ago, a 13-year-old female student took naked photos of herself and text messaged them to various male classmates. The “child pornography” that the boy was arrested with was the photo that this girl had sent him. It was stored on the cell phone that he took to school.
Later today, we’ll discuss whether this boy is a pervert - or whether authorities are overreacting?
