You have the funeral for your father and even cremate what appears to be his body, only to find out 8 years later that he is actually alive. That’s exactly what a happened to 71-year-old John Delaney.

Apparently he suffered a head injury and was admitted to the hospital in a confused state of mind (thanks in part to amnesia). John could not identify himself or give police any information they could use to contact his relatives so he was treated and assigned a new name (David Harrison) and handed over to social services.

Then eight years later his 42-year-old son John Renehan was watching TV and noticed him. After DNA tests confirmed they were related they were happily united.

Talk about a strange story.
