Dwarf hires to sneak into house and steals copper
A gang of burglars in Newcastle, United Kingdom, recruited a dwarf to squeeze into boarded-up houses to steal scrap metal, but he was caught when a security guard was patrolling the derelict council houses in May saw the drunken 3ft 11in burglar’s head poking of a hole in a broken door.
Dwarf Lee Kildare, 22, 3ft 11in tall, and still lives with his mum was given a 12-month community order with supervision. He also got a three-month night-time curfew to stop wandering about during the night.
Michael Crowe, defending, told magistrates: “The gang encouraged him to participate in this activity because, as a result of his size, he finds it easier to get into smaller places.
“He was able to get through a small hole in the house in question and it is right to say he is taken advantage of on occasion by others.”
The court heard that the gang would sell the copper pipes on and give Kildare a cut. Fiona Varley, prosecuting, said: “He was very drunk and said if the police hadn’t arrived he would have stolen the copper. When asked about the scrap metal lying around the house, he said he couldn’t remember anything about it but said he probably would have stolen that too.”
