Do not try an Olympic style escape

That is exactly what a 24-year old Caleb Ngatoka Kotara learned. After getting roughly 4 meters (jumping over a waist high barrier) police quickly jumped him and brought him down before bringing him back to where he belonged.

Police prosecutor Nigel Wolland had explained to the court that the police had been called out to calm things down at that household 13 times since October 2005.

There had already been concerns about the young labourer’s behaviour during the morning at the court while he was being held in the cells, and he had been seen by the psychiatric nurse who works at the courthouse.

Judge Macdonald heard the application for bail this afternoon and had just announced that Kotara would continue to be held in custody.

“I’ll leave her alone, Your Honour,” Kotara promised from the dock, to no avail.

Then he turned, and as he walked back toward the door to the cells he suddenly made a dash and a leap to his right, toward the door to the corridor and the street.

The police standing behind the dock were off the mark faster than a 100m final, and had him floored within two seconds.

Long and short of the story: There is only one Usain Bolt and you’ll never be him!
