It looks like a trashcan with 4 spider legs, but Push-Kun is no ordinary trashcan, maybe in brain capacity, in fact, it is a robot created by by Osaka-based Robot Force that moves around on spider-like legs, tells jokes, play drum rolls on itself and do all sort of crazy things.

A Full Sized Gundam Robot?

Japanese Roboticist Takayuki Furuta from the Future Robotics Technology Center plans to build a 4-meter version of Gundam robot and have it up and running by 2011. The complete bot would cost around $742 million USD to build, a large price to pay for a real life Gundam robot i guess.

MIT Media Lab Personal Robotics Group has developed a new type of ‘emotional’ robotic program called MDS, which stand for Mobile/Dexterous/Social. The program is run by roboticist Cynthia Breazeal and her group at MIT. The flagship robot so far is Nexi, a robot that can move its body, hands, and face in a way that mimic human emotions.

Simroid aka Pain Girl (Ita-gaaru) is a female patient robot designed by Kokoro Co., Ltd especially to train dental students.

According to Dr. Naotake Shibui of the Nippon Dental University in Tokyo, Simroid is modeled after a 28-year-old woman and she’ was designed to simulate a real female patient. She is equipped with pain sensors that trigger over 30 responses to indicate discomforts, hence the nickname Pain Girl.

The BBC reports that A pair of light weight, robotic planes have made the first unmanned flights over Antarctica.

The robotic plane driven by propeller made 20 low altitude flight needed to be launched by catapult but flew autonomously until landing. It was fitted with miniaturized instruments to collect data for use in climate research.

According to Modern Mechanix, the first ever robot was made in 1910 by Friedrich Kaufman of Dresden, Germany. It was said to be a trumpet playing soldier and is at present on display in a museum in Munich, Southern Germany.
