50 foot mechanical spider in Liverpool

The images you are beholding (and hopefully not frightening you) belong to a 37 ton 50 feet high spider that is currently hanging in Liverpool (England). Its supposed to be part of a street theater act that will mark its year as Capital of Culture.

Fear not though as the spider is 100% mechanical and is due to come down from its lofty perch any day now and begin exploring the city. I can’t imagine the amount of paramedics and firefighters that will be around to deal with those heart attacks and heart failures that this mechanical beast will cause when it finally comes to life.

Weighing 37 tons and standing 50ft high, the spider is currently clinging to the side of Concourse Tower in the city.

The huge insect spotted in Liverpool is in fact entirely mechanical and part of a new piece of street theater organized to mark its year as Capital of Culture.

It is thought the insect will come down from its current position tomorrow and then ‘wake up’ on Friday before starting to explore the city.

Tens of thousands of visitors are expected in Liverpool over the three days to try and see the mechanical arachnid.

If you’re interested in seeing it, you still got some time left to do so.
